Everyone Should Download the 'Election Protection Smartphone App' [Election 2012]

Aug 9, 2012 3:20 PM

Everyone Should Download the 'Election Protection Smartphone App' Texting is pretty easy. Voting can be harder. So a bunch of noteworthy organizations — the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Association of Latino Appointed and Elected Officials Education Fund, New Organizing Institute, Rock the Vote and Verified Voting Foundation — have teamed up to create "the Election Protection Smartphone Application" for mobile-savvy Americans who can't remember where they put their voting registration forms.

According to their website, the app will allow voters to:

•    Verify their registration;
•    Register to vote;
•    Look up their polling place;
•    Review key voting rules and regulations for their  state;
•    See what type of machine they vote on; and
•    Contact Election Protection via phone or email to report a problem or get answers to their questions.

Now if only the app could tell us who Romney plans on picking for his running mate and save us a few zillion postulating op-eds! Perchance to dream.

Download it here.

Sandra Fluke Says If We Like Covered Wagons and No Electricity, We Should Vote for Romney [Politics]

Sandra Fluke Says If We Like Covered Wagons and No Electricity, We Should Vote for RomneyOn Wednesday, Georgetown grad Sandra Fluke introduced President Barack Obama at a campaign rally in Denver focused on women's reproductive rights. Fluke, who unfortunately has the ignominious media epithet "the woman Rush Limbaugh called a 'slut,'" told her audience that, if they wanted to go backwards in time to when novacane wasn't a thing yet and surgeons were judged by how many limbs they could saw off in a minute, they should go ahead and vote for Mittens come November.

She accused Romney of wanting to wind back the clock on women's health issues, or at least not being strong enough to stand up to those who would actively legislate against women's reproductive freedom:

[Obama] defended my right to speak without being attacked," Fluke said. "Mr. Romney could only say those weren't the words he would have chosen. Well, Mr. Romney, you're not going to be the candidate we choose.

Fluke added that a Romney presidency would unravel "the rights that generations of women have fought for," and that the only campaign promises he'd made to women so far were "dangerous promises to take us backward." All this talk about time travel is starting to make me think that Mittens has a DeLorean sitting in a garage in the Caymans, and that, if elected, he'll start taking us on field trips back to the Jurassic period, which sounds cool but who knows what havoc even the slightest misstep could wreak on our present? No, a Mittens presidency would definitely constitute a severe threat to the delicate time-space continuum.

Giant Dancing Walrus Should Win Custody of Jackson Children [Video]

Giant Dancing Walrus Should Win Custody of Jackson Children

I... okay. So this was first posted in March, but only now has it hit maximum viral capacity. And why not? What better way to Gorilla Glue the torn-asunder Jackson family unit back together than the well-trained swagger* of a large-flippered marine mammal† in Troy Aqua Park and Dolphinarium in Belek, Turkey? There is none. Reconciliation is imminent.

*Incidentally, the walrus' Latin name, Odobenus rosmarus, means "tooth-walking sea cow." Could also double as (A) a Shakespearean insult or (B) grounds for divorce.

†Don't try to walk for at least 5 minutes after you watch this because you've been hit by, you've been struck by, the smoothest tooth-walking sea cow.
