Total Recall's Original Three-Breasted Woman Fought Back Tears During Her Topless Scene [Notable/quotable]

1990's Total Recall, now seeing a remake starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, et. al, may best be remembered for a two-second scene in which a three-breasted woman exposes herself to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The woman who originated the part, day player Lycia Naff, went on to write for OK! Magazine, People Magazine, and the Miami Herald. She divulged to Vulture that four breasts were the original plan until they tested poorly ("too bovine"), compared Schwarzenegger to a "baby bird" and "an automaton" in the same breath, and admitted her discomfort while filming:

It didn't hit me until the first moment where the scene called for me to expose myself, because what came over me was such shame. Which was weird, because they weren't my breasts, and it was what I had signed up to do. So why was I getting a reality shock now? I started to cry, and if you look closely at those scenes when I'm opening my blouse, I'm smiling, but not in my eyes.

She also wished her successor in the remake, Kaitleen Leeb, the best of luck with the "horny sci-fi fanboys" and myriad other opportunities that scared her shitless at the time.

I was so petrified when all the reality of it sunk in. Entertainment Tonight wanted to me to come on the show, me and the guy with the one eye, so they could do a piece on the prosthetics, and I said no. Johnny Carson wanted me to come and sit on his couch, and I said no. I was stupid, embarrassed, and young. Now, looking back, why not? Why not make a goof of it?

Hillary Clinton Takes a Turn Defending Huma Abedin [Notable/quotable]

Hillary Clinton Takes a Turn Defending Huma AbedinAfter Michele Bachmann accused Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in an epistolary fit of paranoia and rapidly vanishing relevance, some more reasonable Republican lawmakers politely informed her that her xenophobia was showing. On Monday night, it was Hillary Clinton's turn to defend her aide against Bachmann's irresponsible allegations.

Speaking on international religious freedom at D.C.'s Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Clinton was asked about "Islamaphobia" in America and whether she had any comments about the recent accusations against Abedin. Clinton answered:

Leaders have to be active in stepping in and sending messages about protecting the diversity within their countries. And frankly, I don't see enough of that, and I want to see more of it. I want to see more of it, and we did see some of that in our own country. We saw Republicans stepping up and standing up against the kind of assaults that really have no place in our politics.

In other words, anyone who wants to sling baseless accusations about terroristic threats should think about it for a long time and maybe, instead of pursuing a paranoid fantasy of detective work, go outside, and enjoy the last third of summer with a refreshing Arnold Palmer, which, after all, is a much better way to show off one's patriotism.

Hope Solo Goes on a Twitter Rant About Commentator Brandi Chastain’s Soccer Ignorance [Notable/quotable]

Hope Solo Goes on a Twitter Rant About Commentator Brandi Chastainâ??s Soccer IgnoranceNoted libertine and soccer player Hope Solo took issue with the way soccer commentator Brandi Chastain criticized the U.S. Women's soccer team's apparently porous defense. Solo did what all vociferous famous people do when they need a suitable podium for their outrage — she fired-off a series of scathing tweets, the first of which was meant to illustrate just how little Chastain knows about modern soccer:

Lay off commenting about defending and [goalkeeping] until you get more educated @brandichastain the game has changed from a decade ago.

There's nothing a former athlete hates more than being reminded that the times have a-changed, but Solo didn't stop there. She continued with a justification for her anger:

It's important 2 our fans 2 enjoy the spirit of the olympics. It's not possible when sum1 on air is saying that a player is the worst defender!

Finally, Solo insinuated that Chastain was part of the reason that soccer isn't all that popular amongst American TV audiences:

I feel bad 4 our fans that have 2 push mute, especially bc @arlowhiteis fantastic. @brandichastain should be helping 2 grow the sport.

After meeting today with team captain Amy Wambach, Solo tweeted again that everything is just fine with Team U.S.A. and that all the fretting ESPN commentators shouldn't worry their little hearts — she won't be missing any game time. For her part, Chastain, one of the most accomplished players in U.S. soccer history, didn't engage with Solo, thereby restoring national unity to the Olympic endeavor of winning as many baubles as possible.

Connie Britton Closes Her Eyes During Taylor Kitsch's Sex Scenes [Notable/quotable]

Connie Britton Closes Her Eyes During Taylor Kitsch's Sex ScenesAs glorious-maned dream mom Tami Taylor I mean, Connie Britton, gets ready to play a country music doyenne in the new ABC drama Nashville, Vulture asked her some questions about the Friday Night Lights (script is written but schedules haven't aligned) and her concerns about having sex with a rubber dude on American Horror Story:

I was just coming off of Friday Night Lights and people really held that character in really high regard. This is kind of silly, but I was concerned about being a character in a marriage, playing a marriage, and in some way not living up to whatever those expectations were.

When Britton's character Vivien Harmon gave birth on the show, Britton (who has one adopted child and has not given birth herself) went to the co-star you'd expect for advice on screaming authentically in medias res of delivery:

I was grilling Jessica Lange on exactly what the pain is like in childbirth. She was trying to describe exactly what the pain was, the level of pain. It's just awful, basically. I wanted to be so specific, though. I didn't want to be cliché like [rolls her eyes back and makes a grunting noise]. I figured she knows. Jessica knows all.

Finally, she was asked if she saw Savages, the Oliver Stone sex-and-drugs extravaganza starring Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson and her former co-star Taylor Kitsch, with whom she keeps in touch.

I did, yes. I, um … I had to close my eyes a lot.
