Boudoir Photography Is the Wedding Industry’s Answer to Internet Porn [I Thee Dread]

Boudoir Photography Is the Wedding Industryâ??s Answer to Internet PornThe latest trend in wedding photography is — even though it should continue to be zombie picnics — boudoir photoraphy, and it threatens to embarrass a whole generation of middle-age adults tasked one day with sorting through their recently deceased parents' secret box of stuff nobody in the family ever knew about, a box that contains dad's winning fantasy football roster, an unfinished novel about a Jewish vampire who falls in love with a Mormon werewolf, and a flipbook of mom in various stages of undress and pleasant drunkeness.

According to The Daily, boudoir photography has become popular in recent years with brides hoping to give their fellas a reason not to look at internet porn. At least, that's how Dallas-based photographer Lynn Michelle (whose boudoir packages start at $1,000) explains the burgeoning boudoir business. "A lot of women do boudoir because they're afraid their fiancés are looking at porn," explains Michelle, "and they'd rather them be looking at her."

It's like an arms race with internet porn! Michelle is currently doing between 60 and 80 shoots per year, and says her client list ranges from military brides, divorcées celebrating a second marriage, and middle-aged women who are exceedingly pleased with the results of successful plastic surgery. Another photographer named Carlie Rose says that she gets a lot of "preachers' wives," who bring "in blindfolds and thinking they're the dirtiest things ever." Then, of course, there are the women merrily engaged in a bout of paper-trail infidelity who order two boudoir books — one for their husbands, and another for their boyfriends.

Some women get more undressed than others —photographs range from "tasteful" lingerie shots to pornier pictures. Some brides wear the authentic sports jerseys their fiancés overspent on by buying through their favorite team's official website, while other brides wear clothes indicating that they know and appreciate their fiancés' hobbies, clothes like motorcycle jackets and, for one Boston woman, waders (because her husband like fishing and a hook-in-mouth shoot would have just been too macabre).

A New Jersey photographer named Tony Yang, who likes to play Britney Spears to help his clients relax, says he hates the words "classy" and "tasteful" because he's an artist and refuses to be constrained by modest adjectives. Yang encourages brides not to hold back, and so offers wine for them to sip during their shoots, which sounds like the hilarious set up for a fiancé's sudden and unexpected appearance. Misunderstandings ensue and, before you know it, we have the blocking device we need for a satisfying romantic comedy.

Here comes the bride, all dressed in...very little [The Daily]

12-Year-Old Cancer Patient's Makeup Tutorials Are the Best Thing on the Internet Right Now [Video]

12-Year-Old Cancer Patient's Makeup Tutorials Are the Best Thing on the Internet Right Now Over 100,000 people subscribe to 12-year-old Talia Joy Castellano's YouTube page so they can watch her bubbly and seriously impressive makeup tutorials. (She may have just convinced me that primer has a purpose, something I've been denying for years.) But Talia's not just another millennial YouTube celeb; she's been a cancer patient since 2007, and says she uses makeup as a "wig" that makes her feel comfortable and confident even while going through shit that most of us couldn't even begin to fathom.

12-Year-Old Cancer Patient's Makeup Tutorials Are the Best Thing on the Internet Right Now

Earlier this summer, Talia jumped up and down in her chair as she told fans that she couldn't wait for 7th grade. But last night, she uploaded a vlog titled "idk what to say" and announced some horrible news: she now has two cancers in her body at once. "Well pre leukemia which is a start of leukemia in my bonemarrow," she wrote on the site. "Its very rare to have neuroblastoma and leukemia at the same time."

12-Year-Old Cancer Patient's Makeup Tutorials Are the Best Thing on the Internet Right Now

"Basically there are not really a lot of options for treatment anymore," Talia explains to her viewers with the wisdom of few adults we know. One of them is a bone marrow transplant, which would be very tough on her body because she's had "so many surgeries it's crazy." She says she's leaning towards not doing it, which means she would only have four months to a year to live.

"I'm going to decide whether or not I want to do the bone marrow transplant, or whether or not I just don't do it and live the time I have remaining," she says. "This is not fair to me anymore. I'm only 13. I shouldn't have to be doing this…it's really not fair for kids to have cancer. It really frickin sucks."

Talia's not sure what her next steps are, but she does know she'll keep making videos. "I've gotten so many benefits from [cancer]," Talia says. "Having a YouTube channel, having to inspire people and having people look up to me...I adore, I love makeup, using it as my wig...it's amazing...the journey of having cancer was amazing. But every journey has an end. I hope you guys understand what I'm saying, and understand where I'm coming from."

There Are Nude Photos of Miranda Kerr on the Internet [NSFW] [Video]

There Are Nude Photos of Miranda Kerr on the Internet [NSFW]These nude photographs of Miranda Kerr of unknown vintage have surfaced online. Shot by photographer Laurent Darmon, they were uploaded to his Web site yesterday (and have since been removed). It's not unheard of for nude work from early in a model's career to become the subject of editorial or even tabloid interest later, when that model has made it big: in 2010, Lara Stone successfully sued a photographer who cashed in on her rising fame by selling nude images of her from a 2008 test shoot to French Playboy. Kerr has done her share of nude work, posing for, among others, the Pirelli calendar and the cover of Australian Rolling Stone. Copyright law where photographs of a well-known person are concerned is tricky; photographers are in most nations considered to hold authorship rights over every image they shoot, but public figures also can have rights of publicity over images of themselves, too. There Are Nude Photos of Miranda Kerr on the Internet [NSFW]Chris Burch's new line, C. Wonder, has been criticized by his ex-wife Tory Burch for allegedly being a little too close to her own business idea. But now he's being sued by an artist named Zlatka Paneva who noticed striking similarities between some C. Wonder homewares and her own text-based artworks. [Fashionista] There Are Nude Photos of Miranda Kerr on the Internet [NSFW]Nina Garcia apparently earns so much money that she thinks a Birkin is only "a few weeks' salary." [@NinaGarcia] There Are Nude Photos of Miranda Kerr on the Internet [NSFW]Happy 20th birthday to Karlie Kloss. And happy 22nd birthday to Jourdan Dunn. The two supermodel friends share a birthday. Dunn, for her part, spent the evening of her birthday in an airport bar. [Facebook, @MissJourdanDunn] Katie Holmes took Suri to J. Crew four times in one week, sparking rumors she is working with the brand in some capacity. Meanwhile, the actress has set a time for her first-ever New York fashion week presentation of Holmes & Yang, the clothing line she designs with stylist Jeanne Yang: it'll be Saturday, September 8th, at 9 p.m. [WWD]Kanye West and Kim Kardashian met for lunch with François Pinault, the billionaire head of luxury retail company PPR. The topic of discussion? A potential shoe line, allegedly. [RadarOnline]Speaking of shoes, Kari Sigerson and Miranda Morrison — who together founded Sigerson Morrison in 1991 — talked to the Times about the contretemps with their financial backer, Marc Fisher, that led to them both being fired from the company last year. A lawsuit between Fisher and the former designers is ongoing. Morrison and Sigerson sold an 80% stake to Fisher, and went from being owners to employees (at $350,000 per year):

The parties professed mutual admiration. "I've always loved the Sigerson Morrison brand and found Kari and Miranda to have a great eye," Mr. Fisher told Women's Wear Daily at the time of the sale. Ms. Morrison added that he "shares our entrepreneurial spirit and respects our DNA." There was talk of new stores, eyeglasses, even fragrances.

But the honeymoon did not last. Ms. Sigerson and Ms. Morrison came to believe that their designs were being knocked off for Marc Fisher's discount line, they would later claim in court papers. (For example, a black-and-silver flat sandal from their 2008 Ikat collection, they contend, looked eerily similar to an orange Marc Fisher model that retailed for $69 the next summer.)

Fisher is the same Marc Fisher who was, along with Guess Inc., successfully sued for over $450,000 by Gucci for knocking off its shoes over a period of years. Marc Fisher also produces Ivanka Trump's licensed shoe line, which everyone knows knocked off a Derek Lam sandal. Oh, and also:

Perhaps most explosive were the designers' claims that Mr. Fisher had sexually harassed the women on numerous occasions and created a hostile workplace. According to court papers, at one meeting Mr. Fisher allegedly stared down the back of Ms. Sigerson's clothes so lewdly that the president of the company, Susan Itzkowitz, wondered aloud whether Mr. Fisher needed sexual harassment training. (Mr. Fisher's lawyer, Jonathan Minsker, called the harassment claims "entirely frivolous.")

Selling an ownership stake in the company you've built is rarely a good idea, even when it doesn't end in sexual harassment, knock-offs of your intellectual property, and your own dismissal. [NYTimes]

For only "a little under $2 million" you, too, could own a 14-carat diamond necklace designed by Waris Ahluwalia. "I will hand-deliver it to whomever buys it," says the jeweler/actor. "That is a promise." [WWD]Ever wonder how Anna Dello Russo galavants around Paris and New York in January with bare legs and sleeveless minidresses, posing for street style photographers? "Rumor has it," says Glamour's Susan Cernek, "that street style supernova Anna Dello Russo puts athletic heat patches onto the small of her back on chilly Fashion Week days so she can sport skimpy designer duds and still stay toasty." [Refinery29]Giorgio Armani says he has sacrificed his life to the fashion industry. "I have sacrificed life. The life of a young man when I first started out and the life of a grown man at the age I am now." [Elle UK]Daffy's has opted for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The chain says it has $37 million in outstanding debts and finished fiscal 2011 $11.4 million in the red (on net sales of $151.3 million). It expects to raise $59 million from liquidation and other asset sales, meaning both secured and unsecured creditors will get paid in full. [WWD]Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy are apparently on the run from French anti-corruption investigators. The couple is said to be staying with wealthy friends in Canada. Meanwhile in a small suburb east of Paris, someone had the bright idea to commission for public display a statue of Bruni posing as a garment worker. The representation of an Italian industrial heiress and First Lady as a woman of the people has, despite the statue's private funding source, ruffled some feathers. [Telegraph]Sophia Kokosalaki is no longer going to design the high-end Diesel Black Gold denim line she has creative-directed since 2009. [WWD]And now, a moment with male model Isaac Ekblad, who was discovered while studying for a philosophy test at Lewis and Clark university. Isaac, what are you reading?

The New Jim Crow. It's kind of about mass-incarceration and the age of color-blindness. It just talks about the prison system today and how it's very racist and locks up people of color. So I'm reading that and Dostoyevsky — The Brothers Karamazov, one of my favorite books. I've read it three times. Dostoyevsky has a pretty crazy past. He got thrown in this Siberian work camp for fifteen years because he was a Socialist and then started writing to support his gambling habit. I don't know his books are just — they really plumb the heart and depths of the human soul. He develops characters that you can really imagine.

The Internet Reveals that Early Summer Is Definitely the Sexiest Time of Year [Sex]

The Internet Reveals that Early Summer Is Definitely the Sexiest Time of YearIt's take a new study to determine when Americans are the most sexed-up, but now we finally know thanks to the infinite record book that is our beloved Internet — Americans are most eager for sexy times in the early months of summer. Oh, and around the holidays. And once for the entire month of March back in 2008 because of Eliot Spitzer.

According to an analysis of keywords that people in the U.S. used in Google searches from 2006 through March 2011 showed a distinct uptick keywords relating to finding a date, porn, and prostitutes during June and July, and also during the holidays in December and January. "Whether it was searches for 'eHarmony,'" says study researcher Patrick Markey of Villanova University, "or for 'brothel' - there was this exact same pattern." For people seeking dates, "eHarmony" and "Match.com" were two of the big keywords; for people seeking an escort, "call girl" and "escort" were tactfully deployed; and for people browsing for porn, "porn" and "boobs" were the magic words of choice. Prostitution, mate-seeking, and porn-seeking searches jumped 2.78 percent, 5.67 percent, and 4.28, respectively.

How do researchers explain this jump? With shrugging, mostly, and then some guessing — though the data is pretty straightforward, there isn't a clear reason behind the across the board, triumviral jump in porn, prostitution and dating. Some researchers have linked the study's results back to a "natural tendency" to give birth in the late fall or early summer, but, according to Markey, this doesn't really account for the porn spike (which, I'm just realizing, is too gross-sounding to either say out loud or delete). Fluctuations in sperm quality or seasonal hormonal changes may help unravel the mystery, but it's impossible to know for sure.

Previous studies in STD diagnosis rates, births, and abortion rates have also suggested that sexual activity peaks during these two different times of year, but the most recent study of internet searches focused primarily on the activities people engaged in leading up to or in anticipation of a sexual encounter. Markey suggests that the increases in sex-related Google searches correspond to two times of year when social activity reaches its peak, and that simply being around other humans makes people really horny. That, he thinks, would best explain the link between the respective winter and summer surges.

So people aren't just seeing each other in more revealing summer clothes and deciding to do it, right there, in the lifeguard's rowboat — they're just getting to spend more time around more people, which, as we now know, leads to dirty Google searches. One phenomenon that researchers had to control for, however, was a 35 percent jump in prostitution searches in March of 2008 when the Eliot Spitzer scandal broke. Only time will tell what havoc Anthony Weiner's candid photos have wreaked on search engines everywhere.

Why Is Whitney Port Asking For Money On The Internet? [Video]

Why Is Whitney Port Asking For Money On The Internet? Whitney Port is coming to the Internet cap-in-hand for money to pay for her September runway show at New York fashion week.

Port is making her request on Indiegogo — a crowd-funding site that, unlike its competitor Kickstarter (which has stringent rules for qualifying charitable and creative projects), allows anyone with an Internet connection to post any plea for any sum. No idea is turned away. "Showing [your line] can actually be one of the most exciting moments of a designer's life," explains Port in the accompanying video. "I'm doing something that's never been done before: the first-ever fan-supported fashion show at fashion week in New York. That means I'm asking you, the friends and fans who've made everything I do possible, to join the crowd-funding campaign."

Why Is Whitney Port Asking For Money On The Internet?Click the image above to see a screengrab of Port's Indiegogo fundraising page.

Port is seeking $50,000 "to put towards the hair and makeup, the space, the models, and so much more."

Why Is Whitney Port Asking For Money On The Internet? What separates Port from your average friend-with-an-idea-for-a-movie-and-a-Kickstarter — aside from a lucrative background in reality TV — is that Port is essentially seeking a $50,000 investment for her small business. Only she's calling it a donation, as if her fashion line were a charity. Putting on a fashion show is a standard business expense for a designer fashion brand. Why isn't Port doing what other young designers do to grow their companies — get a bank loan, a financial backer, borrow money from family and friends, apply for industry awards and grants for emerging talent, or dig into her own pockets? Why isn't she seeking funding from individuals and institutions that understand the risks inherent in this type of investment and who are savvy enough to negotiate for an ownership stake? In exchange for your donations, Port is offering only recognition that ranges from "special thanks on my Facebook page" ($1) to a front-row seat at the show ($450).

Putting on a fashion show can be very costly, especially at Port's chosen venue of Lincoln Center. Last year, IMG — the entity that owns Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week — raised the rates on all of its show venues by an average of 8%. To rent the Box, the smallest space available for just the few hours it takes to mount and strike a show now costs $16,500. Last season, Port's line Whitney Eve showed at the Studio, a mid-sized venue that goes for $30,000. And then, of course, there are PR expenses, invitations, a stylist, a casting director, key makeup and hair artists and their teams, security, and all of the other budget line items that need to get paid. Nobody said working in fashion was easy. But Whitney Eve is a business. Port expects to make money from this show. Why should the public pay her for the pleasure?

Why Is Whitney Port Asking For Money On The Internet?Whitney Port seems an unlikely candidate for charity. The Hills, the reality show that launched her to fame, paid her a reported $20,000 per episode. Then she did her own spin-off, The City, for two seasons. She got a book deal. She endorses a zit treatment and John Frieda hair products. She's a judge on Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. A single sponsored Tweet from Port will set you back $2500 (but if you give her $5 on Indiegogo, she'll Tweet at you in thanks). Her CAA Speakers profile page doesn't list a rate for securing her services as a public speaker, but does suggest topics a Whitney Port speech might address, including "Style: Injecting a Bit of Brightness into Every Outfit," "Living Life To Its Fullest: Accept the Invitation, Take Chances, and Enjoy Yourself!" and "The New Consumers: Using Technology to Connect and Communicate with a Changing Demographic."

Port also comes from a wealthy family. Port's father, Jeffrey Port, is the head of a Los Angeles apparel company called Swarm. He backed his daughter's fashion line at its inception in 2008, when it was called "Eve & A." Port and her four siblings all attended Crossroads, a tony Santa Monica prep school. (Tuition there is currently $31,900 per year for grades 6-12.) Whitney Port's net worth is estimated at $3.5 million.

Port's fundraising campaign has 40 days left. She has raked in a grand total of $415 so far.

Internet Marketing In The Age Of Google

Forget the Computer Age or the Internet Age, centuries from

now our current time will probably be referred to as the

Google Age. This assumption is not exactly a great leap

of faith; Google has quickly permeated into mainstream

culture to become an underlying factor of everyday life,

a tightly woven backdrop to our lives.

But never make the mistake of trying to define Google

as just a search engine or you will miss the true calling

of this little "Backrub", which was the original name used

by its founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1996.

Google as we now know it debuted in 1998. The name Google

is a twist on the word Googol, a number represented as 1

followed by 100 zeros. After everything is said and done,

it will more than likely refer to Google's net worth --

monetary or otherwise.

But forget search engine, for regardless of the founders'

intentions or company's objectives, Google is and has always

been the ultimate marketing machine. A massive marketing

machine that is just now gearing up and aiming for more

and more lofty heights. These heights seem to increase

each day as Google quietly rolls out program after program.

All noble ambitions aside, Google is the perfect marketing

machine. Google has no equals, and it is very close to getting

a stranglehold on the real power behind all marketing, which

is information.

Marketing is information. Information is marketing.

Great marketing is supplying the right information at the

right time. Google more than any other entity on the web

or in the world, for that matter, fulfills this criterion

at its very core. Google is re-writing the book on how

products are marketed.

Google now has over 60% of the search traffic in the U.S.,

with a staggering 7.3 billion monthly searches. In some countries

Google's search share is 80% or more. (Source: comScore) Those

webmasters who have number one keyword listings in all three

of the major search engines will know Google is the only game

worth playing because it delivers by far the most traffic.

While MSN and Yahoo! are still major players and are listed

in the top 5 traffic sites on the web, what most people don't

realize is that (unlike the other two) almost all of Google's

traffic is search traffic. From a marketing perspective this

is extremely important since search traffic can deliver the

highest conversions (sales) mainly because it lets you capture

the potential customer or client when they are in the right

mindset to buy or to perform an action.

Obviously the key to successful marketing is finding the

buyers and clients for your products and services. Google

has forged itself as the ultimate "middleman" as more and

more of the world's business is performed in cyberspace.

And as everyone knows the "middleman" can reap huge profits

and hold enormous power.

Google, within its Adsense program, now offers CPA or Cost

Per Action where marketers can now receive larger returns

for displaying Google's links on their webpages. As any

professional marketer will tell you, you can get 10 times

the revenue by promoting affiliate products rather than the

Adsense code on your sites. But by adding CPA and other

affiliate products within the Adsense program, Google has

made it more attractive to serious online marketers.

Another step in that same direction is Google's acquisition

of DoubleClick, which includes the massive online affiliate

marketing network Performics. This means Google can now bring

any customer full-circle from initial search to checkout.

This may have dire consequences for large, lucrative third-party

affiliate networks like Commission Junction and LinkShare.

Online marketing and ecommerce is growing at a blistering rate,

and the company that controls the majority of these transactions

will wield enormous power. Will make the Medici look like paupers.

Those marketers who have managed to acquire number one listings

for their targeted keywords in Google's organic search are

smiling all the way to the bank. Mainly because Google commands

enormous trust with the surfing/buying public and this is

demonstrated through higher conversion rates. Likewise,

those who have mastered the Adsense and Adwords programs

will know Google is an excellent source of online income.

Most of the complaints against Google stems from its PageRank

system, which is supposed to be Google's version of online

democracy in action, a link is a vote for your page or content.

The higher the number of links, the higher your page will be

ranked in Google's index or SERPs -- Search Engine Results Pages.

So far Google has played fair, giving even the smallest webmaster

the opportunity to capture top Google listings if they produce

superior or popular content to the surfer. Some would even argue

Google's recent crackdown on sites offering paid-links can be

seen as evening the playing field for the small webmaster or

marketer who obviously doesn't have the economic clout or

resources to buy their way to the top of Google's listings.

Keyword rankings may be the ultimate equalizer and determiner

of online wealth. Those who can reach the top positions for

their chosen profitable niche keywords will have companies

and service providers lining up to do business with them.

The fallout can prove extremely lucrative for both parties.

However, few marketers or webmasters forget who is really

holding the cards; Google controls all steps along this

marketing tunnel with its search listings, Adwords and

Adsense programs. The only dark spot on the horizon could

be monopoly issues, but Google probably has enough reservoirs

of public goodwill and deep enough corporate pockets to squash

any claims.

As Google's dominance in the search market becomes greater,

Google will have control of all segments of the online

marketplace. Why should Google stop there, why not go into

Radio, TV... as the Internet gradually mutates into a

billion+ interactive TV channel universe (as many believe

it will) who do you think will be at control central

offering you a nice free remote?

Then there is also Google's planned broadband 700 MHz bid;

one can only speculate on Google's intentions. But Google

must find a way to transmit its information at no cost to

its users. Could it mean free wireless Internet for everyone

on free Google boxes or gadgets of some form, usable and

accessible anywhere in the world? Anything is possible because

the stakes are so astronomical and the marketing revenue so

vast, Google must get its information seamlessly and instantly

to the end user at all costs.

One can only guess at the enormity of the marketing power

Google will yield in coming years as the Internet slips

out of its teen years. But it won't be just marketing,

the influence of Google on all aspects of our lives will

probably grow exponentially and that influence will be huge.

For the true power of Google is only just now beginning to

be glimpsed; only as more and more of the Google pieces

fall into place will we truly fathom what life will be

like in the Google Age. Google's power, reverence and

respect will no doubt be so enormous it may lead some

to make comparisons to a higher power that has guided

most of the life on this planet so far. Which could also

lead one to muse, at least they got the first two letters

correct.
